Chotta Mumbai - the new flick for this Vishu is giving ample space for the debutant music director Rahul Raj to make an impressive debut. Even in his first attempt, the music director has introduced a number of singers from the `Superstar Show' ranging from Sangeeth, Sreelakshmi, Sangetha Prabhu and even the music director lending his voice, all giving good results. With a number of youth full lyrics, the album will make you dance to its beats.
The five song album is liberally packaged with contemporary voices, particularly of the new generation. Ranging from remixes to techno music, in the lines of Deepak Dev albums, the tracks keep in mood with the demanding younger lot.
1. Chettikulangara - The album, which is totally youth-centric, starts with this track, in the lyrics of Sreekumaran Thampi. This is a wise remix song, done with exuberance by the musician. The original from the seventies film `Sindhu', sung by maestro K J Yesudas and set to music by M.K.Arjunan, in which we saw the first dancing star in evergreen `Prem Nazir', is revamped in the voice of M.G. Sreekumar. Sayanora also give ample support with endearing humming and soft lyrics in between. The song is set as typical western rock 'n roll number .The number might definitely entice the die hard fans of Lal, especially those who are in the lookout on how Lal will enact the original Nazir steps, on screen. the song is repeated again in the album with little difference
2. Chotta Mumbai - This is the title music of the film. Rahul Raj, Sreerag and Sreelakshmi gave their voices for another fast beat rock and roll number, at their aggressive best .The typical western instrumentation and moderately fast beats with changing rhythms sounds of trumpets, violins and guitar strains and the accelerated pace of percussion, chorus works and added audio effects make it a beautiful theme song heard in Malluwood, recently.
3. Poonila Mazhananayum - This presents the debut of the `Superstar Show' winner, Sangeeth and Sangeetha Prabhu into filmdom. Both these singers have graced their voices into the romantic song with feel and is announcing that they are here to stay. The lyrics talk of love unfolding new vistas and a beautiful world for the lovers. The number has soft percussions and add verve and vigor to Vayalar Sharath's sensitive lyrics. The song is a potential hit of the album.
4. Thalaai - This is the highlight song of the album, rendered by Shankar Mahadevan with able support by Sreerag. It literally starts with a bang and retains that tempo till finish with no respite in between. Shankar Mahadevan sings with his usual fervor painting a picture of the hero as a fearless and violent rebel. There is a thin strain of rap running through almost all the numbers make it a youthful tracks.
Rahul Raj is definitely proving that he can be a part of the new breed of young music directors of Malluwood. With Fast beats, racy rhythm, a selection of motley of singers, and refreshing voices - that's not all, he have given us with the music of Chotta Mumbai.
