It is not uncommon in the film industry for major actors to change the release dates of their movies prior to release, if it clashes with the release of another actor's movie. Vijay's 'Mersal' directed by Atlee and Vikram's 'Sketch' directed by Vijay Chander were set to release this coming festive season around Diwali.

However, actor Vikram got in talks with the production team of his film and decided against releasing 'Sketch' on the same date. When two films of major stars release on the same day, the number of theatres in which the film screens is bound to come down resulting in loss of revenue. So the decision by the 'Sketch' team to postpone its release to another day not only is sensible, but also displays the unsaid friendship between the two heroes.

While Chiyaan's 'Sketch' is touted to be an action comedy, Thalapathy's 'Mersal' will see him playing three distinct roles in differing timelines. 'Mersal' which also has Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menon and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in important roles will release on October 18.
