Today is 28th October, the day which might have silently slipped into the time wheel but created a new page in the Telugu film history books for a mega star to evolve. Chiranjeevi was doing lead roles in small film prior to that but Khaidi catapulted his career to an entirely new plane, so much so that its become a practice to refer every hero's first success to his 'Khaidi', much the way Big B's Zanjeer is done.
Khaidi was loosely based on Sylvester Stallone's 'First Blood' and the action episodes, coupled with chartbusting music has made it a great watch. Chiranjeevi's fights and dance moves in some of the songs in the film have become legendary after the film's success. Director Kodanda Rami Reddy, who has churned out as many as 36 films with Chiranjeevi is also the director of this film and Chakravarthy's compositions are heard even today in the Telugu speaking villages.
Madhavi and Sumalatha were the female leads, Rao Gopala Rao, Nuthan Prasad, Ranganath, Rallapalli were the antagonists. Produced by Dr. M. Tirupathi Reddy on Samyuktha Arts banner, the film went on to run for over a year in theaters and was the first true action packed film in Telugu for some time.
