Late Uday Kiran's sister has opened up about what transpired more than 15 years ago when her brother was supposed to marry Chiranjeevi's daughter, Sushmitha.

"Uday Kiran was going through trauma when his love life (with a journalist) fell on the rocks. Chiranjeevi garu was a huge emotional support during this phase. He advised my brother to focus on career and grab the many opportunities he was getting. It was Chiranjeevi garu who first proposed that Uday marry his daughter. But Uday discovered that his likes and dislikes were not compatible with that of Sushmita. It was his call to call off the marriage," Uday's sister has said in an interview.

It has been widely believed that the Megastar called off the wedding when he discovered that Uday was still in touch with his ex-girl friend even after engagement with Sushmitha. Uday tragically committed suicide in 2013.
