Chiranjeevi condoles the demise of CPI Stalwart Sitaram Yechury

Veteran Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury passed away on Thursday at the age of 72, following a prolonged illness. The senior politician had been in critical condition for several days after being admitted to AIIMS New Delhi on August 19 for the treatment of a pneumonia-like chest infection. His demise has prompted a wave of grief across the political spectrum, with tributes pouring in from leaders of various parties.

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), the CPI(M) said, "It is with profound grief that we announce the passing away of CPI(M) General Secretary, our beloved Comrade Sitaram Yechury, at 3:03 PM today, 12th September, at AIIMS, New Delhi. He was suffering from a respiratory tract infection that developed complications. Yechury had been battling a severe respiratory infection, which had kept him in the ICU under the care of a multidisciplinary team of doctors. On Tuesday, his party released a statement indicating that he was receiving treatment for an acute respiratory tract infection. By Wednesday, sources reported that Yechury was under oxygen support, with his condition described as "critical but stable."

Politicians from across party lines expressed their condolences over the passing of Sitaram Yechury, reflecting his broad influence and respect within Indian politics. Megastar Chiranjeevi also shared his sorrow, stating, "Deeply distressed by the news of the passing of Shri Sitaram Yechury, a veteran leader with over five decades of political journey and a towering figure in the CPM. Since starting as a student activist, Shri Yechury always strived to be the voice of the downtrodden and the common people."

Chiranjeevi continued, "My heartfelt condolences to his family, admirers, and the entire CPM fraternity. His commitment to public service and the nation will always be remembered and greatly missed."

Yechury’s passing marks the end of a significant era in Indian politics. His tireless efforts as a leader, both within his party and on the national stage, will leave a lasting legacy. His work championing the causes of the working class and marginalized communities remains a testament to his commitment to social justice and equality.
