Megastar Chiranjeevi has been feted with the IFFI Indian Film Personality of the Year Award for 2022 by the Indian government. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur made the announcement on Sunday at the ongoing edition of IFFI in Goa.
Acknowledging the recognition, the 'GodFather' and 'Waltair Veerayya' actor wrote, "Greatly delighted and humbled at this honour. My deep gratitude to the Government of India and all my loving fans only because of whom I am here today!"
The multi-lingual nature of Chiru's filmography, his career spanning decades, and the quantum of his films (more than 150 in number) came in for mention.
His 1982 movie 'Initlo Ramayya Veedilo Krishnayya' was cited by the government. Besides, the Padma Bhushan honour that he was given in the year 2006 was also cited.
In the past, his contemporaries such as Superstar Rajinikanth, Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, and Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan also received the award.
