Today is the birthday of Vivek who is one of the most successful, long lasting and highly admired comedy actors of Tamil cinema.
Vivek was introduced to Tamil cinema by Iyakkunar Sigaram K.Balachander through his 1985 film 'Manadhil Urudhi Vendum'. Since then he starred in many films of the 1980s and 1990s primarily doing comedian roles and became popular among fans.
In the late 90s when separate comedy tracks in films emerged as a trend in Tamil cinema, Vivek started getting immense prominence. He also carved a unique place for his among other comedians with his social satire and message oriented comedy. With that he achieved the ,moniker Chinna Kalaivanar in remembrance of Kalaivanar N.S.Krishnan who espoused reformist ideals through comedy in Tamil films.
Vivek is a comedian who can also act well in supporting characters. In quite many occasions he has proved that he can make the right impact with emotional acting as well. He has also acted as the hero in a few films.
A profound admirer of former India President and the inspirational Indian leader APJ Abdul Kalam, Vivek has never missed an opportunity to spread the legend's ideals. He also involved himself in the tree planting drive a Kalam requested people to plant more number of trees for a healthy life for all.
In his recent films Vivek's roles are not just limited to comedy. He has been getting more of substantial roles that support the hero. The recent examples are 'Thozha', 'Manithan' and 'Kaashmora'. All reviews for these films mentioned Vivek's performance as one of the positive aspects of these films.
At present Vivek is busily acting in many films and the list includes 'RUM', 'Birndavanam' directed by Radha Mohan, 'Meesaya Murkku' in which he plays the father to Hiphop Tamizha and 'Thiruttu Payale 2'.
