Few days back, it was announced by a popular university in Chennai that lyricist Vairamuthu will be conferred an honorary doctorate of literature in the presence of the central defence minister Rajnath Singh, and this had generated huge outrage on social media, with Singer Chinmayi opposing it.

Chinmayi had tweeted questioning how fair it was for a central minister to honor someone accused by nine women with Me too allegations, and following this, there has been a huge change of plans in the doctorate awarding for Vairamuthu, as the University has released a new invite.

This new invite doesn't feature the names of Rajnath Singh as well as Vairamuthu, and it has been said that following the tweets posted by Chinmayi, Vairamuthu's doctorate has been cancelled, and that the central minister has also avoided attending the event.
