Chinmayi gave momentum to the Me Too movement in Tamil Nadu by making sexual misconduct allegations against lyricist Vairamuthu in 2018 which has emboldened many women to come out with their own sufferings at the hands of men. Vairamuthu had stated that he is innocent and is ready to face legal proceedings regarding the same.
On Thiruvalluvar Day, Vairamuthu made a fiery speech after garlanding the poet's statue that alcohol consumption is the biggest evil in Tamil society. He stated that when men drink liquor it not only spoils his liver but also his family life. He also pointed out that sexual misconducts and rapes are mostly done under the influence of alcohol and hence it should be abolished.
A Twitter user posted a new story of Vairamuthu's demand for alcohol abolition to Chinmayi who has trolled her alleged abuser writing in Tanglish "If alcohol was abolished 20 or 30 years back I and the other girls would have escaped".
