Chinmayi is a singer and me too activist who is known for voicing out against sexual harassment in the Tamil Music industry and she also played a vital role in bringing out sexual harassment in PSBB school to the limelight.
She often made headlines for her bold confrontations. She recently took to Twitter to post a must-read message from one of her followers who stood up for herself when the groom demanded a huge sum as dowry.
The post reads " I'm Indrani and I'm 23 years old, my parents considered this as a good age for marriage and started looking for matches, even though they are financially weak. They found a guy and thought he is perfect match to me."
"The family came up with demand that they would need 50 lakhs cash to be deposited in Joint bank account of Bride (me) and groom's name. Also they asked for Adapaduchu katnam (dowry for his elder sister). She stays in US and would come to marriage only if we give a nice amount of dowry. Dad and Mom were so upset about this"
" I couldn't remain silent. My instincts were killing me. I shouted loudly at the dining table. I'm an MBA graduate and not any random item to be sold in the market. What is this bullshit. Im working in an MNC and I earn 50k per month. He called groom's parents and said we are withdrawing from this alliance. I have never been this much happy and contented about my life" she also thanked Chinmayi for standing up for girls like her. This post with a deep message to eradicate the dowry system is winning hearts and the girl who stood for herself is appreciated by many.
