#MeToo movement: Dubbing Union condemns Chinmayi

Singer and dubbing artist Chinmayi who had come forward with sexual harassment allegations against veteran lyricist Vairamuthu a couple of months ago, later announced the repercussions of her revelation, as the South Indian Cine Television Artistes and Dubbing Artistes Union revoked her membership soon after.

Even though this move by the Dubbing Union against Chinmayi was perceived as an adverse reaction to her allegations against Vairamuthu, the Union’s reason for the termination of her employment was that she had failed to pay her subscription fees for 2 years. “I have been terminated from the dubbing union. Which means I can longer dub in Tamil films henceforth. The reason stated is that I haven’t paid ‘subscription fees’ for 2 years though this hasn’t stopped them from taking 10% off my dubbing income,” she had posted on her official Twitter page.

Recent news is that Chinmayi, who has been persistently calling out the Dubbing Union on their unprofessional act, has been condemned by the executives of the Union who hold her responsible for their defamation.

Even though a good number of people came to her defense, Chinmayi has also been in the receiving end of severe backlash from fans of the people she had accused of the alleged harassment.
