Singer Chinmayi's mother had spoken in a recently held TV show that she will never forgive Periyar for destroying the Devadasi system, and said that it was a great system that belongs to the nation. This speech of her had invited lots of negativity on social media, with many trolls against the singer and her mother.

Following this, initially, Chinmayi had tweeted that she is not responsible for her mother's speech, and that she has a different opinion from her mother. She had tweeted "I am not responsible for my mother’s actions. If you disagree with her disagree with her, please do. She is capable of speaking for herself. I don't defend her views or support."

After a while, she had tweeted apologising for her mother's statement, saying that she completely opposes Devadasi system, and that she doesn't agree with her mother's views. She added that she can't endorse the system just because her mother supports it, and that her mother is only responsible for her actions. However, she concluded that she apologizes for justifiably hurt sentiments.
