Effort by Chinese authorities in laying roads along India’s border at the Doko-La (Donglong) tri-junction with Bhutan has once again raised tension in bilateral relations between India and China.

The tri-junction witnessed tension during June when Chinese made a similar attempt but were restrained by Indian soldiers. Later, both the sides rushed additional forces to that locality, creating a war-like situation. India supports Bhutan and holds that it was Bhutanese territory that the Chinese was trying to occupy.

After a 70-day long stand-off, Asian giants India and China held diplomatic level talks and agreed to withdraw forces from the border. It is in this backdrop that China is said to have resumed the road-laying work in Doko-La.

The work of extension of the road’s width is being done 10 km away from the border with security provided by as many as 500 Chinese soldiers, thus creating tension along the border.
