It's now increasingly being demanded by several outfits in India that Chinese apps such as Tik Tok and Helo should be banned. What are the risks posed by the apps developed in China, a country determined to cripple India's economy?

Very many android and IOS apps created by Chinese developers can have spyware or other malicious ware in the disguise of mobile apps. Most of the cyber attacks that happen in India are in the financial services domain. So, if and when China deviously plans to abuse the apps used by Indians, it can be deleterious.

Chinese hackers illegally use the data Indians feed into the apps. The US has long become wary of Chinese technology.

The security forces of India in 2017 listed at least 42 Chinese apps as spyware or malware. In 2017, intelligence agencies too zeroed in on those mobile applications that were suspected to be conduits for a wide cyber-attack against India.

Use of China-developed apps by India's security personnel can be detrimental to data security.
