Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan had opined about 'Hindu Terrorism' in a weekly column he has been writing in a popular Tamil magazine. He has said that 'Hindu Terrorism' is a reality now. This has made the right wing birgade ranging from fringe outfits to the National ruling party BJP strongly condemning the actor for allegedly "insulting the Hindu religion." A leader of Hindu Mahazabha a Hindu outfit has called for "shooting dead" or "hanging" Kamal Haasan for his 'Hindu terror' remark.
This has evoked widespread criticism from free thinkers and democrats across the nation. Now Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan with whom Kamal has been maintaining a cordial relationship has voiced in favor of Kamal's freedom of expression. He has said "Strongly condemn such criminal attempts against Kamal Haasan's freedom of speech by threatening to murder him by Hindu Mahasabha leader(s)."
