Sushanth awaits the release of 'Chi La Sow' on August 3. In this interview, the actor talks about his role in the rom-com. Directed by actor Rahul Ravindran, the movie has Ruhani Sharma as the heroine. Catch the youngster say why it's a special outing.
Why the title 'Chi La Sow'?
It was first meant to be called Chiranjeevi Arjun, after my character's name in the movie. But once 'Arjun Reddy' released and became a big hit, Rahul Ravindran changed the title so that it doesn't look inspired.
You were doing films with a massy touch in the past. Why the changeover?
I had been wanting to try out a new subject. 'CLS' is one such subject. You will understand it when you watch the movie on August 3. If the audience believes that I have tried something new, it will be a victory for me. I was under different kinds of influences before. That's why I did the kind of movies I did. I have done 'CLS' going by my gut feelings. Mavayya too has said the same thing to me. When Rahul gave me the narration, we tried to get on board a couple of directors but that didn't work out. It's through my friend Harish that we finally met Jaswanth and Bharat garu of Siruni Corp. They had been looking out for a new-age subject.
What has made Annapurna Studios want to release the movie?
Rahul and Samantha have been good friends. He had narrated the story in brief to her before starting the film. When she saw the movie after it was done, Samantha asked Chaitanya to watch it. With Chaitanya liking it, he asked Nagarjuna garu to watch it. Mamayya too liked it. It was Mamayya's decision to partner with Siruni Corp to release the movie.
What's the subject of the movie?
It starts with a pelli choopulu. The entire story unfolds in a span of 24 hours. It's both natural and cinematic. All the characters are very simple and realistic. I acted without make-up. I will be seen wearing shorts in the entire movie. The character is very realistic. It's like a guy-next-door character. We did a workshop for 4-5 days. The body language of my character is not heroic. That's how the role was designed. Since Rahul is already an actor, it helped me.
What has Nagarjuna told you after watching the movie?
He just told me that the movie is good. But later, he called up my mother and told her that I have done a movie that suits me totally. He feels that I should continue to make choices like this one. It's a big certification, coming from him. It's a proud moment for me and my entire team.
What's your next movie?
It's a fun thriller. We are planning it to be a new-age cinema. The details of cast and crew will be announced soon.
