Theatre owners in Chhattisgarh Sunday sought action against activists of a right wing Hindu organization for trying to prevent the screening of the Hindi movie "Julie".

Contending that the film went against Indian culture, activists of the Hindu Raksha Manch (HRM), a sister organization of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, ransacked Shyam theatre here Saturday demanding it screening be stopped.

The Chhattisgarh Cine Association sought stern action against the HRM cadres for disrupting the screening of the movie.

The HRM has given the theatre till Tuesday to withdraw the movie.

HRM general secretary Avdesh Jain said "Julie" is replete with vulgarity and erotic scenes that went against Indian culture.

"I have given the theatre three days to withdraw the movie. We will use force after Tuesday if the theatre owner fails to comply," Jain said.

Police have slapped cases against Jain and 20 others for ransacking the theatre and for intimidation.
