Director Cheran had returned to films after a break post JK Enum Nanbanin Vaazhkai, with the family entertainer Thirumanam, starring himself, alongside Thambi Ramaiah, Umapathi Ramaiah, MS Baskar, Kavya Suresh and Suganya. Though the movie was expected to be the director's comeback, it failed.

Currently the actor has acted in Rajavukku Check directed by Sai Rajkumar and is awaiting release, and on the other hand he is penning down the script for his next directorial venture. Of late, he has been active on Twitter and has been answering questions and posting opinions on various issues.

One random twitter user had questioned him if he was so free, and doubted if he does not have any movie, and Cheran gave a fitting reply, as he responded, that he has atleast made 11 movies, acted 15 movies, produced 5 movies and won 4 national awards and now to update himself is using social media, while the user who questioned him is wasting time on mobile rather than working and making parents happy, and that he will make a movie on him next.
