Director Cheran has been known for his socially relevant, message oriented family entertainers like Porkaalam, Bharathi Kannamma, Vetri Kodi Kattu, Autograph, Thavamaai Thavamirundhu, Pokkisham etc, and had achieved huge commercial success with Autograph.

After a break post JK Enum Nanbanin Vaazhkai and C2H failure, the director made a return to making films with this year's Thirumanam that starred himself along with Umapathi, Kavya Suresh, Thambi Ramaiah, Sukanya and MS Baskar, and is currently preparing the script of his next.

Being active in Twitter, the actor/ director was questioned by a user on whether the director has plans to make the sequel to his 2004 blockbuster Autograph. The director also confirmed that the sequel will definitely happen. While the director has given his confirmation, it is not sure if it will be his next project or will happen later. The director also has plans to direct a movie with Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi.
