Cheppave Chirugali
Vikraman is a director who goes by a strict pattern.
His films are never vulgar. It is usually about understated love told in italics. He can be accused of being repetitive. But, on the flip side, he has also been successful (in Tamil), and so he is also justified in sticking to his formula.
Cheppave Chirugaali is a typical Vikraman film. It was made as Unnai Ninaithu in Tamil starring Surya, Laila and Sneha. But the film was panned as being too predictable and slow. It didn't do well.
The failure of the Tamil original does not mean that its remake in Telugu will also fail; Vikraman himself has set a good precedent for that --- his Tamil film Priyamana Thozhi flopped but its Telugu version Vasantham was a mega hit.
Coming back to S P Entertainment's Cheppave Chirugaali, it stars the ever-around Venu with Abhirami and Ashim Ball as the female leads.
The film was originally titled Dondu Donde, but the filmmakers perhaps changed it to Cheppave Chirugali, falling for the trend to pick film titles from popular songs.
For Venu, after his comedy role in Kushi Kushiga, Cheppave Chirugali is a totally different film. He plays an understanding youth who is caught between the girl he loves and the one who loves him. It is a usual love triangle with lots of glycerin-induced sentiments. There is also the usual comedy package of comedy that Vikraman specializes in.
For Abirami, this is a very movie of her career. Though talented and good-looking, she has not got the right breaks. She will be hoping that the film provides that. Ditto for the other heroine Asim Bhalla.
The film has been shot in a few countries in Europe. "The backdrops in some of the romantic scenes and songs are exciting. The rushes are very good and looking at it we naturally got into a romantic mood and that really helped the overall effect!" says Venu.
The film is set for release next month. The songs are said to be typical Vikraman style --- soft and melody based.
