A man from Chennai's Tiruvalluvar Nagar in the Alandur area stabbed three people who attempted to stop him from committing suicide.

The incident happened on Saturday night when the accused, identified as Karthik Nivas, asked his parents to step out of the apartment and locked himself inside. The panic-stricken parents had shouted for help when they realized that their son was about to kill himself and refused to let them in. A middle-aged couple who resided above their flat and a woman, named Mary, who lived next door rushed to Karthik's rescue upon hearing his parents' cry for help. While they were continuously banging on the door, Karthik suddenly unlocked the door, stepped out, and stabbed the couple and Mary with a pair of scissors. The couple escaped with minor injuries, but Mary, who was stabbed in the neck, has been admitted to the ICU.

The police have registered a case on Karthik, who has been unemployed for over seven months. Karthik's parents, however, have claimed that their son is mentally unstable. Investigation of the case is on.
