Cops have arrested a US-based tennis player for alleged kidnap and assault of her boyfriend at Kilpauk, Chennai. The 20-year-old Vasavi Ganesan along with Gokul from Nungambakkam and Abhishek from Arumbakkam were sentenced to jail by the court later. Vasavi had been playing tennis since 8 and happens to be under 14 national champion.

Vasavi is a psychology student from the US and became friends with Gokul and Abishek via Facebook and through them got to know Navith with whom she entered into a relationship. They had met at a hotel on May 6, when they had an argument which turned physical, and then she had informed her friends.

On May 9 when Navith was returning in the bike, Vasavi's friends' gang stopped him and took him away in his bike. He was made to sit between two men in his bike and as they roamed around the city, attacked him violently besides also snatching his 15000 Rs worth watch and 25000 Rs worth mobile. They later called Navith's friends to give 2 lakhs to release him, and as they denied, they let him go. After a complaint by Navith, police were able to trace the kidnappers with CCTV footage, and upon investigation, it was found that it was Vasavi's plan and her friends executed it.
