Chennai Super Kings is the defending champions in the tournament right now as the side bagged its 4th IPL trophy in 2021. Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur were the core of the team's bowling unit in the past few seasons. CSK retained Deepak Chahar for INR 14 crores ahead of the auction while Shardul Thakur went under the hammer and sold to Delhi Capitals for a whopping price.
Deepak suffered a quadricep tear he picked during India's T20I series against West Indies in February. It was earlier speculated that he might miss the first half of IPL 2022 due to the same. But the 29-year-old player will miss the whole year because of a new back injury during his rehab at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Deepak was supposed to join the CSK squad this week but the situation has turned otherwise now. The team had a bad season so far with 4 losses out of the 5 matches they played. While the fans are expecting that the franchise owners should get a replacement player for Chahar, there is no official information in this regard yet.
