Girl students of SRM University staying at the hostel started protesting last night against a worker who sexually abused a girl in the lift and demanded the management to take action.  It is said that a second year undergraduate got into a hostel lift to reach her room in the sixth floor when a man already inside started masturbating in front of her and even when she screamed and tried to get out-blocked her way.

 Reportedly the warden did not take the complaint lightly and instead advised the students to wear "appropriate" clothes.  Dismayed by the lack of action girls and boys of the university located at Kattangulathur near Chennai started protesting and raising slogans and only after that from CCTV footage the culprit was identified and handed over to the police who filed FIR against him.  The girls have stated in media that this is not the first incident and many of them have experienced the male workers freely roaming around the hostel and peeking into their windows at night.
