The Greater Chennai Corporation, along with Chennai Smart City Limited (CSCL), decided to rebrand the city corporation schools as part of the Smart City Mission and are offering nearly 100 Montessori education classes.

The corporation schools which have been renamed as 'Chennai schools' also have other advanced facilities, including face-recognition-based attendance and Wi-Fi-enabled campuses. The project, which aims to focus on technological and pedagogical improvements, has transformed numerous schools across the city in the first phase.

The Montessori education system has been established by training kindergarten teachers and equipping classrooms with teaching and learning aids. "Teachers at all these schools will undergo a training course. Capacity-building will be done for teachers after assessing their needs. The focus will be on improving English and teaching maths using innovative methods," a Smart City official said.

Under the scheme, all students will be provided with uniform, books, notebooks, and stationery while female students will be provided with a scholarship. The students will also receive a cash award for 100 percent attendance.
