A fire broke out this afternoon near Sri Ramachandra Medical College of Porur, causing over 150 cars to catch fire due to the dry grass and strong winds.
“These cars were parked by a private company over the last one year. Some are new cars. The fire has been extinguished but smoke is still coming,” a fire service official reported. Other officials stated that overheating of one of the parked cars’ silencer started the fire. The fire control was alerted by a security guard who was present at the scene. An inquiry has been launched into the matter to ascertain the proper cause of the fire.
In a similar incident that happened yesterday in a parking lot in Bangalore’s Yelahanka Air Force Station, a massive fire break out led to the destruction of over 300 cars.
