Due to Coronavirus pandemic, and the number of cases increasing in India to more than 10,000, it was announced earlier today by the Indian prime minister Narendra Modi that the nationwide mandatory lockdown will be extended till May 3.
Tamil Nadu has the second most number of cases just behind Maharashtra, and Chennai is classified in red zone category as it has the maximum number of cases in Tamil Nadu. Now, police department is planning another measure to protect people.
Yesterday, it was announced by Chennai corporation Commissioner Ramesh that it is mandatory for anyone coming out of their homes to wear masks. Now Chennai police has announced that from today anyone riding vehicles without wearing masks will be penalized Rs 500 under Motor vehicles act section 179.
