A man from Chennai's Nanganallur committed suicide on Wednesday after his girlfriend broke up with him and cut all contacts. He had slit his wrist and filled a liquor bottle with his blood and left it as a "gift" for his ex-lover, according to a report from a news agency.
The man, identified as Pandian, was allegedly in a relationship with the girl for years and she had decided to cut all contacts with him and blocked him on social media after breaking up with him. Pandian was unable to reach her despite several attempts. His friend, Muthu, reportedly said that Pandian had gotten into depression and had isolated himself as he was unable to cope with the loss. The two of them had met for drinks on Tuesday and that was when the boy slit his left wrist and killed himself. When Muthu tried to stop him, Pandian threatened to stab him with the glass if he didn't back away. He later filled a beer bottle with blood that had flown from his wrist and had asked Muthu to give it to his ex-girlfriend as his "last gift" for her.
Muthu rushed Pandian to the Chromepet Government Hospital soon after, where he refused to be treated. The doctors declared Pandian dead at 1.30 am on Wednesday. The police have launched a formal investigation on the matter.
