Semmanchery police arrested a mother and her son for being involved in duping 60 people of money. They had ‘earned’ Rs. 21.50 lakhs by cheating others. The incident came to light when Ruban Amalraj, a resident of Shozhinganallur complained to the police. The mother and son, Chitra and Robert, had promised him a house in the Semmanchery Housing Board.
The swindlers had asked him to pay Rs. 50,000 in order to get a house. He had given them the same in 2015. Later the duo refused to pay Amalraj back. He then filed a complaint with the police. The Semmanchery police started looking into the case and found that it was not an isolated incident. They had cheated 60 others of money. The pair was arrested and is now in judicial custody.
