The Honourable High Court of Chennai yesterday granted anticipatory bail to actor Manchu Manoj in the so-called assault case. Following a complaint made by Kollywood actor Mahath, the police had slapped a case on Manoj and four others under sections 341, 294 (B), 323 and 506 (2).

Manoj later filed an anticipatory bail petition with the HC. Mr. Natarajan, who appeared for Manoj, reportedly argued in the court that there had taken place no assault and that it was just verbal altercation that ensued between Manoj and Mahath post the dinner party hosted by an actor in Chennai.

It was rumoured that actress Tapsee Pannu was the reason why the two actors fought with each other. Tapsee has since distanced herself from the controversy, stating that Manoj is like a brother to her.
