Top 10 Films at the CBO for the last six months
The first half of 2016 is over and already more than a hundred films have been released with only a handful becoming hits and barely a few managing to break even. Here we present to you the top ten highest grossing films at the Chennai Box Office.
'Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum' – Rs. 3.02 Crores
The official remake of the Korean super hit My Dear Desparado` by Nalan Kumaraswamy the film banked heavily on the performance of Vijay Sethupathi and the cute screen presence of Premam` Madonna Sebastian who both delivered the goods.
'Idhu Namma Aalu' – Rs. 3.08 Crores
The long delayed Idhu Namma Aalu` saw the light of the day after many last minute struggles and on the strength of Simbu`s box office draw and the presence of Nayanthara became a hit.
'Aranmanai 2' – Rs. 3.27 Crores
Sundar C`s magic once again worked at the box office as he rehashed his own Aranmanai` and still delivered the hit with Trisha, Hanshika Motwani, Soori and Poonam Bajwa for company.
'Conjuring 2' – Rs. 3.30 Crores
The more you scare them the more money they pour at your feet is a saying that works all over the globe and more so in Chennai as the audience gave this scare fest two thumbs up and made it a huge hit.
Irudhi Suttru' – Rs. 3.34 Crores
Maddy`s grand comeback was greatly helped by the women power in this movie that of director Sudha and the pretty young boxer turned sizzler Rithika Singh who won many a hearts.
'The Jungle Book' – Rs. 3.60 Crores
This modern day computer aided retelling of Rudyard Kipling`s timeless tale attracted families like magnets to iron and Mowgli and his animal friends are still welcoming audiences in spite of all the competition.
'Thozha' – Rs. 3.73 Crores
When all the other bilinguals failed to make an impact the Karthi-Nagarjuna pair broke the jinx by striking a chord with the audience.
'Rajini Murugan' – Rs. 4.02 Crores
Sivakarthikeyan consolidated his position as the most favorite star of the family audiences by lifting a mediocre film to a super hit by his screen presence and comedy timing.
'24' – Rs. 5.40 Crores
Suriya the consummate actor reveled in three different roles in the film and Vikram Kumar`s deft touch in the fantasy genre ensured this outing became a huge hit among the audience.
'Theri' – Rs. 11.85 Crores
A tailor made role and story template for Vijay which became the biggest hit of the career of the Illayathalapathy delivered by young Atlee in only his second film.
