A 40-year-old man died after being run over by a vehicle near Acharapakkam in Chennai. The incident happened on Tuesday when he fell off the footboard of a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus.

The man, identified as Ezhumalai, hailed from Washermanpet in Chennai. He was reportedly sleeping on the footboard of the Chennai- Kallakurichi bus while he was on his way to meet a relative in Kallakurichi. Ezhumalai decided to travel on the footboard as the bus was extremely crowded. According to a report, the 40-year-old fell off the bus at around 3:00 am, and an unidentified vehicle ran him over. A few passengers alerted the driver and conductor, who informed the police about the accident. The deceased man's body was sent to a government hospital in Madhuranthagam for postmortem.

Late last year, a 28-year-old woman in Coimbatore died after she lost her balance and fell off the footboard of a TNSTC bus near Neelambur. The woman had apparently gone near the footboard after feeling nauseous. She accidentally slipped and fell off while she was washing her face on the footboard. Although she was immediately rushed to a private hospital, the 28-year-old, who suffered head injuries, was declared dead on arrival.
