A chemical laboratory report confirmed that organophosphate insecticide was found in the samples of the drink found in the viscera of deceased actor Kalabhavan Mani.
Mani a veteran actor and singer died in a private hospital in Kochi on March 6. A day after the death, his brother Ramakrishnan lodged a police complaint claiming that his brother could have been murdered. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigating. The post-mortem report has confirmed the presence of Methyl alcohol in the liquor consumed by Mani.
Mani`s family members suspected the conduct of the three aides Vipin, Murugan and Arun who took care of Mani`s farm house where he used to drink liquor with his friends. When Mani was admitted in hospital, this trio allegedly cleaned the farm house in haste they have now been arrested by the police and kept under their custody for questioning.
The police have questioned several other persons in relation to Mani`s death and that include two less popular actors Jaffer Iduki and Tharikida Sabu. These two actors were present with Mani the night before his death. Sabu in his statement to the Police had said that he left the place before Mani started drinking liquor. However Jaffer had said that all the three drank together. Due to this contradiction the duo were called again for questioning.
Amid all these, the latest confirmation on the presence of insecticide in the liquor drunk by Mani gives more credence to the suspicion that someone has mixed the poisonous substance and gave it to Mani on that fateful night with an intention to kill. We can expect more and more mystery to be unveiled by the police as the investigation goes on and the real culprit is nabbed.
