Director Mani Ratnam is a master storyteller, no doubts there. Many movie buffs and cinema lovers however have always observed and debated over how the director draws inspiration from mythological tales and modern comparisons. If you think ‘Thalapathy’ you might be reminded of Karnan and Duryodhana or if you think ‘Iruvar’ – there’s a more modern comparison to Karunanidhi and MGR.
Now with ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’ making waves in K-town, theories are coming up that ‘CVV’ characters are taken inspiration from the Tamil historical novel ‘Ponniyin Selvan’! Don’t believe us yet? Compare the novel characters Aditya Karikalan, Arulmozhivarman, Vandiyathevan, Pazhavetturayar with Varadhan, Thiyagu, Rasul and Ethi. Hmm . . we got you thinking didn’t we?
Now obviously there is gret anticipation over the revelationof other characters as well to see if this is much more truer. It would be also interesting for you to know that Mani Ratnam had actually wanted to make a movie based on ‘Ponniyin Slevan’ . Did he just resort to drawing charcter inspiration alone? We will have to wait for the movie to satisfy our curiosity.
