Bollywood enjoyed an exciting phase in 2015 which witnessed the astonishing girl power at the BO with some brilliant movies. 'Piku', 'NH10', 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns', 'Masaan' and 'Margarita with a straw' made audience and critics sit up and applaud immensely for these films which was carried successfully mainly by the female actors. While one would have thought the New Year will have big screens dominated by Khans, Kapoors and Kumar; just hold on. For there are indeed some women-centric films to look forward to in 2016. Followed by 2014 and 2015 which witnessed some epic women-led films, these 2016 films are set to make new records thereby creating a revolution in the Indian Cinema. Take a look here...
Neerja: One of the most awaited films and biopics of 2016, 'Neerja' has the fashionista Sonam Kapoor essaying the role of the Ashoka Chakra awardee who lost her life in the ill-fated Pan Am Flight 73, that was hijacked. The trailer of the film is out and looks very promising. The film is set to release in early 2016.
Jai Gangajal: Priyanka Chopra has replaced Ajay Devgan in the successful Gangajal's second instalment. The actress will be seen playing a tough lady cop. The trailer features Priyanka in a power packed performance. Looks like the sequel will set new records.
Sarabjit: Yet another biopic, the film has Aishwariya Rai Bachchan, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadha in lead roles is based on the life of Sarabjit Singh- Indian national who was alleged of terrorism and spying by the Pakistani government. Though Randeep would play Sarabjit, Aishwariya playing his sister and Richa his wife have a very strong role to essay. Thereby making it a women-centric film.
Ki and Ka: Although the film has Arjun Kapoor in lead along with Kareena Kapoor-Khan, looks like this one will be dominated by the actress more. Since the film highlights the relationship between an ambitious working wife and house husband.
Fitoor: Although the film is a romantic saga, the story is mainly dominated by the antagonist, who is a lady. Played by Tabu, Begum acts as the snake who adds venom in the love story of Firdaus (Katrina Kaif) and Noor (Aditya Roy Kapur).
Cabaret: Richa Chadha who has been always seen more in off beat cinema will be first time seen in a glamorous role playing a cabaret dancer. Pooja Bhatt's 'Cabaret' portrays Richa in a very different role singing and dancing in the film. According to the actress, the film has lot more than dancing. It'll be interesting to see what the film has in store to offer the audiences.
Chalk and Duster: This is a full-length women-centric film where most of the actors are female. The film stars Juhi Chawla and Shabana Azmi in key roles along with many other actresses like Divya Dutta, Zarina Wahab and others in parellel roles. The film also stars Richa Chadha in a vital role, playing a journalist. The film is about teachers and students relationship.
