Priya Prakash Varrier, the national crush of a couple of years ago, has played an important but short-lived character in 'Check', this week's biggest release. Seen in a duet with Nithin, she also gets to change the direction of the story in it.

While director Chandrasekhar Yeleti had a character of meaning for the Malayalam beauty, the film per se fails her. Somehow, the young actress fails to make a mark. It's mostly because of the sketchy execution and a lack of proper character establishment. She is limited to doing some generic things on the screen while the story suggests something else.

The national crush of 2018 may just have got into the limelight of Tollywood with the wrong kind of role. But, as a fledgling actress, maybe, she couldn't have asked for more. Priya did the film because she had watched 'Vismayam' (Manamantha's Malayalam version) and became an admirer of Chandrasekhar Yeleti. Her calculation may not have paid off, after all.
