With 'Maha Samudram' turning out to be a box office flop, director Ajay Bhupathi is coming in for much criticism. The 'RX 100' maker has been accused of over-confidence as well as some level of closed-mindeness. Before the theatrical release of the Dasara movie, the second-time director said that they had readied 'Blockbuster' posters already. The Sharwanand-Siddharth starrer, far from becoming a blockbuster, has bitten the dust.
In this context, his 'Cheap star' taunt is coming back to bite him. In September 2019, Bhupathi made the two-word remark against Ravi Teja, who first accepted to do 'Maha Samudram' (the character Arjun was to be played by him) but rejected it eventually because the final script was not to his satisfaction. It seems the 'RX 100' director had spent months imagining the 'Krack' actor in the role, which was eventually played by Sharwanand. So, he was mighty disappointed and took a swipe at the Mass Maharaja without taking his name on social media.
In the event, 'Maha Samudram' flopped. Does this prove anything about Ravi Teja's judgemental abilities? The jury is out on it since nobody knows on what grounds the 'Disco Raja' star rejected the movie. To be sure, he has acted in bigger duds such as 'Amar Akbar Anthony'.
