Channel 4 Chief Executive Officer Alex Mahon has termed the allegations against comedian Russell Brand "horrific" and further revealed that the network is still investigating his conduct. Brand stands accused of sexual assault and rape by four women, which were unveiled in an investigation from The Times of London, The Sunday Times, and the Channel 4 documentary team, "Dispatches." Brand denies all these accusations vehemently.

Brand had a long history with Channel 4, including hosting "Big Brother's Big Mouth." In 2019, he shocked viewers by baking cookies resembling his wife's genitals on "The Great British Bake-Off." Mahon addressed these allegations during the Royal Television Society conference in Cambridge, which Channel 4 sponsored, acknowledging the industry's current public scrutiny.

Mahon emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and mentioned that Channel 4, along with the BBC and Banijay, are conducting investigations. They have also invited individuals with relevant information to come forward, even anonymously, highlighting their duty of care.

It was further underlined by Mahon as the theme for the conference, "Is there too much to watch?" In so doing, she said UK public service broadcasters (PSBs) are facing a generational challenge where younger viewers have migrated towards streaming platforms and short-form social media over traditional PSBs. While previously PSBs had connected very well with their audiences based on local, regional, or national issues, now youngsters are doing it differently, which is causing core changes in their viewing habits.

In conclusion, Channel 4 has taken allegations against Russell Brand very seriously, conducting investigations while highlighting the larger challenges faced by PSBs in this fast-evolving media scenario.
