Change the name of Narendra Modi Stadium: Netizens

After the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award was on Friday renamed as the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, several Netizens took to social media to demand that the name of the world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad in Gujarat be renamed as well. The Motera stadium is named the Narendra Modi Stadium, after the former Gujarat Chief Minister and India's PM Modi.
As per the Netizens, it is hypocritical on the part of the PM to hear the voice of Indians only in renaming the Khel Ratna Award but not otherwise. "I am a citizen of India. I demand that the name of the largest stadium be changed to something else. It should be named after a legendary sportsperson and not someone who has never played cricket," a Facebook user said.
But several Netizens are countering this argument by saying that the Motera Stadium is not a publicly-funded one. Columnist Kartikeya Tanna wrote, "Naming a stadium after a non-sportsman is NOT the same as naming the country's highest sports honour after a politician. Modi was Gujarat Cricket Association President for five years. GCA owns that Stadium."
On the other hand, the Khel Ratna Award is the highest national recognition in the field of sports. And it is a taxpayer-funded award. As such, its name has to be after a legendary sportsperson who is looked up to by crores of people, Netizens are arguing.
