Analysis:
Well, what is special in Chandramukhi 2? Well, the makers nicely altered the story in part one to accommodate Kangana Ranaut. The film draws your attention from the first scene onwards as the production values of Lyca Production are top-notch. All the money that has been spent on the film is shown in every scene. The emotions that are key in such films are intact and that makes for a gripping second half.
One more aspect where Chandramukhi clicks is the casting department. Director P Vasu has done an amazing job in this department. So much pressure was there on Kangana to live up to the expectations of Jytohika and she lived up to all the hype created. Kangana Ranaut is in top form in this film and has given a solid performance. She as the evil spirit, gives a new dimension to the film and also looks regal in those costumes.
One more special aspect is the way in which Kangana danced in the film. She was superb. Lawrence does not disappoint and he is amazing in two looks the best one is the royal look which is stylish and Lawrence gives a Rajini touch to it. The action sequence that comes over the end between Kangana and Lawrence is superbly executed and brings a lot of depth to the proceedings.
The film has a few drawbacks as well. The thrill factor which was a big highlight in Chandramukhi is missing in the second part. Though the atmosphere is created well, director P Vasu does not elevate many spooky elements. The first half of the film is a bit dull but once Kangana comes, things go to the next level for sure. The pace in the first half an hour is also very slow and boring.
MM Keeravani has composed the music and he is good with his work. His BGM is good but one gets a feeling that the spooky scenes should have been elevated even more. The camera work is good and even better was the costume design. The screenplay is decent but not up to the mark in part one. There are many stand-out moments in the film but when compared to the first, they are not in plenty.
Verdict:
On the whole, Chandramukhi 2 has a similar storyline to the first part. It has decent thrills and great performances from Lawrence and Kangana Ranaut. As the first part is a classic, there will be comparisons for sure but one needs to watch the film with an open mind and enjoy the thriller as it has decent moments of glory.
