Union Road Transport Minister Pon Radhakrishnan has expressed his confidence that the Centre would soon set up the Cauvery Management Board as per the Supreme Court’s directions in this regard.
“This would provide lasting solutions to the issues faced by farmers of Tamil Nadu,” Ponnar said yesterday while talking to newsmen at Namakkal. He was at pains to recall that Karnataka had always failed to abide by the apex Court’s directions in releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
“Karnataka is to vote soon to elect a new Legislative Assembly and obviously the Congress-led Govt. wants to be ‘dismissed’ by the Centre for not abiding by the apex Court’s orders so as to look like a ‘martyr’ in the eyes of the electorate and get sympathy votes. However, I’m sure its plans won’t succeed as the corrupt-ridden Congress Govt. won’t be voted to power again.
“In the past five years, Tamil Nadu didn’t give 192 TMC water even for a single year. Centre would soon set up the Cauvery Management Board which would render justice to Tamil Nadu and its farmers,” he said and added that the BJP wasn’t ‘craving’ to get political parties as allies in the State.
