In an apparent move aimed to take on the opposition parties which have been crucifying the BJP-led Centre for last November’s demonetization, the Centre has announced that it would observed November 08 each year as ‘Anti-black money day’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the entire nation by surprise by announcing on the night of 08th November last year the Centre’s decision to demonetize existing Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency notes. This put common man, including the poor and the persons with disability, into huge trouble as they had to run from pillar to post to get their old currency exchanged as well as to withdraw money from banks/ATMs.
Modi said that the move was intended to arrest black-money laundering and also to ensure that fake notes are put out of circulation. Rs.15 lakh crore rupees, which was in use, was declared as ‘invalid’ overnight. Now that the anniversary of the day is approaching, Congress had earlier hinted that the party would observe Nov.08 as a ‘Black Day’ in the country’s history and would hold rallies across the country.
Opposition parties in all the States have announced separate plans to observe the ‘Black Day’. In the meantime, in an apparent effort to counter the opposition parties’ protests, Union Home Minister Arun Jaitley told newsmen yesterday that November 08 would henceforth be observed as ‘anti-black money day’ by the Centre.
