The Centre on Saturday has clarified that the time gap for the 'precaution dose' of the COVID-19 vaccine hasn't been reduced from nine months to six months.
The pace of administration of precaution jabs has been very slow in India. Today, a Times Of India report said that only about 1% of adults below the age of 60 years have received a booster shot. The numbers are encouraging for those above the age of 60. "42% of those above the age of 60 years and due have been covered," the report says.
Most youngsters are not showing interest in getting the booster shot because they are complacent after receiving the first two doses. Middle-class and poor people are not showing interest due to financial reasons as well. Booster shots are paid jabs.
Last year, the second wave helped the pace of vaccination. People were scared and they got vaccinated. The third wave was mild this year. Therefore, there is complacency.
Meanwhile the number of active cases are steadily going up. At present, India has 18,684 active cases. A couple of weeks ago, this was less than 10,000. In the last 24 hours, the fresh cases are 3,688 in number.
