The Ministry of Electronics and IT used its powers under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act to block them on the grounds that they are prejudicial to India's sovereignty, integrity, defence, security and public order.
We Date, Date In Asia, Singol, Truly Asian, FlirtWish, Guys Only Dating, First Love Live are some of the dating apps that have been blocked. None of these is as popular as dating apps such as Tinder and Truly Madly.
Alibaba, Aliexpress, Alipay, CamCard and Chinese Social have also been found on the list.
The government said that it had banned 59 mobile apps on June 29, followed by a ban on 118 more apps on September 2.
