AR Rahman is currently waiting for the release of the magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan directed by Mani Rathnam. While all his fans are mesmerised by his heart-touching music from this movie, musician Cello Selvaraj has shared an interesting incident about the Roja movie composer.
He revealed that Rahman had invited him to play the cello for the 1992 hit movie Roja. "I politely refused it, but Rahman took my instruments and kept them in his white Ambassador and drove off. After this, I had to follow him to his studio and we composed and recorded the background music for Roja. And that is how our 30 years journey began."
"Rahman also went to Dubai and purchased some ancient instruments for Ponniyin Selvan. He used my double bass, cello, viola, violin, clarinet and trumpet for recording background music for this magnum opus," he added
Cello Selvaraj started by learning to play the violin, but slowly, realised that he needed to learn other instruments too, to go to the next level. His next plan is to branch out into composing. He has also worked with many musicians starting from Ilaiyaraja to Anirudh.
