Actor Siddharth has come in for slamming from his film industry celebs and other sections of society for making a lewd comment against Badminton player Saina Nehwal. The other day, he used the term 'subtle cock' while commenting on Saina's tweet about an incident involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Saina kept quiet but the tweet caught the attention of the National Commission for Women. The NCW, which is a statutory body with powers, has written a letter to the DGP of Maharashtra to register an FIR on Siddharth for making a misogynistic, sexist comment against a woman and a national icon.
The 'Maha Samudram' actor has tried to cover it up by saying that he used the word 'cock' to suggest that the Modi government was cooking up a cock and bull story. But the excuse has not been taken at face value.
'Baahubali' producer Shobu Yarlagadda has asked Siddharth to apologize. "Your tweet was totally disgusting and uncalled for! I hope you find it in you to apologize instead of these stupid justifications! (sic)." Playback singer Chinmayi Sripada wrote, "This is really crass, Siddharth. You just contributed to what a lot of us women are fighting against."
The Cyber Crimes department, Hyderabad, has also taken cognizance of the matter. Multiple FIRs against Siddharth are expected.
