Celebrating the meteoric rise of Prabhas

Now is the time to celebrate Prabhas. Or, better say, we now have another occasion to do it. IMDb, the movie-content site, has released the list of Top Stars of Indian Cinema for the year 2017. Not so surprisingly, Prabhas (at No. 6) is the only South Indian hero to feature in the list.
"Prabhas mesmerized audiences as Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali in the highly anticipated Baahubali 2: the Conclusion, the final installment of director S.S. Rajamouli's inter-generational saga. To transform into a legendary warrior, Prabhas intensively trained for months and reportedly gained over 40 pounds to get the look right. In 2018, we're looking forward to seeing him in Saaho," IMDb's description goes.
This only goes to show, once again, that the Rebel Star is truly a pan-Indian star. Last year, he became the first South Indian star to be honoured with a wax statue at Madame Tussauds. 'Saaho', a multi-lingual film, is one of the most anticipated movies even in Hindi.
Does this kind of gargantuan popularity affect him at any level? "I don't take it seriously," he says on being reminded of how he has become a popular face among Tamils, Kannadigas and even North Indians.
He was also ranked after Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan as the Most Desirable Man in one of the lists taken out last year. "The flow as part of a wave (read 'Baahubali') is like that. I feel happy (about the journey), but I don't take the result seriously," he said in February, ahead of the release of the Rajamouli magnum opus that shook the Box Office like a colossus.
