The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) has announced that it would look into fresh allegations about the 3 decades-old Bofors gun scandal made by a top detective of FairFox, a U.S.-based firm.
Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV interviewed Michael Hershman, a top FairFox detective, a few days back in which the latter had openly accused the Rajiv Gandhi-led Congress Govt. of the late eighties in sabotaging the investigation process.
The kickbacks received during the Bofors deal were invested in foreign bank accounts. “In 1986, the then Union Finance Minister V.P. Singh had asked me to inquire into the wrong-doings indulged in the deal. However, the Congress Govt. tried its best to block the investigation process,” Hershman, who was in the national capital last week to attend a conference of detectives, told Goswami during the above-said interview.
Hershman also said he was ready to help India in investigating the Rs.65-crore scam provided a credible effort was made. It is in this backdrop that CBI spokesperson Abhishek Dayal has said that the CBI had taken note of Hershman’s observations and would launch a fresh investigation into the same.
