Multiple cases have been slapped against Mahesh Kathi, film activist and critic, for his "derogatory" remarks on Lord Rama and the great epic Ramayana. In a recent (uninformed) debate, the self-styled "rationalist" reportedly called Rama a fool. Ravana, in contrast, is a better person, Kathi opined, doing an alternative reading of the epic.
Following the TV debate, several Hindu outfits and a lawyer went to the police in Saidabad, Vanasthalipuram, Kukatpally Housing Board and Banjara Hills, requesting that cases be slapped against Kathi under IPC Sections 295 and 505.
The complainants have said that Kathi should be immediately arrested for "deliberately hurting the sentiments of Hindus". They have also commented that he is a publicity-monger.
As for the film critic, he has got the freedom of speech like everyone.
