Ram Gopal Varma's Facebook post questioning the SIT and Excise Department if they will interrogate school children involved in drug abuse for long hours, and his suggestion that they are abusing the film industry to get popularity, has become even more controversial.
An Excise Department official has said that a case shall be slapped against RGV for trying to "obstruct justice".
In response, RGV shot back saying this is the most preposterous thing he has ever heard in life. "How can a mere opinion obstruct justice? How can it come in the way of them being able to perform duties? How can my opinion affect the morale of a government department? Are they immune from criticism? They are only government servants," he said.
"People criticize ministers and everybody else day in and day out. Are they going to file cases against them all? I am a citizen of this country and I have a right to my opinion," he said.
"As far as one doesn't use unparliamentary language, it's fine. A department will do the investigation by rules. Why should my opinion rattle them?" he asked.
